The proposed technology's innovation consists of polymeric modification of the immobilized cells, using low-cost additives and materials. These additives significantly increase the stability of the cells, the surface area, and the capacity of high specific cells density and provide physical protection for the microorganisms.

An optimal design of quantities of the additives as well as the shape and size of the immobilization support enables use of highly effective biocatalysts for biodegradation of toxic phenolic compounds and other refractory contents, and significant reduction of the negative environmental impact of the organic concentrated agro-industrial effluents.
